SMPTE/VSF VidTrans Conference to Highlight IP-TV

The SMPTE Digital Content Connection and VSF VidTrans 2007Joint Conference will focus on IP Television and will be held at the Buena Vista Palace Hotel in Orlando, Florida, from January 21 to 24, 2007. The selection of topics comes as no surprise in light of market intelligence group iSupplis recent report that the number of subscribers to IPTV services will hit 63 million by 2010, with forecasts putting overall revenue from IPTV services at $26 billion by the same year.

As broadband applications continue fueling consumer demand, says SMPTE Editorial VP Pete Lud (Sony), its incumbent upon organizations such as SMPTE and VSF to prepare professionals for the many technological transformations that will be affecting delivery over IP. Many of these changes will be covered, discussed, and investigated during the conferences three days of technology sessions, which run Monday, January 22nd to Wednesday the 24th, 2007.

Video over IP is receiving a lot of attention these days, says VidTrans moderator, Brad Gilmer (Gilmer & Associates). From contribution, to the home, and now to mobile devices, IP-based transport of video content is a very hot area, and this will be a great conference for anyone wanting to learn more about these technologies.

The SMPTE and VSF Joint Conference also showcases some of the latest applications, technologies, and products in its Exhibit Hall. The Exhibition kicks off with an opening night preview on Sunday, January 21st, and runs through Tuesday the 23rd.

On top of three days of Technical Sessions and two days of the Exhibition, the Conference will also include a number of special events, giving attendees the opportunity to network, catch up with their colleagues and peers, and discuss what theyre learning in the sessions.

For more information about the conference, stay tuned to the SMPTEs (www.smpte.org) and Video Services Forums (www.videoservicesforum.org) websites.
